Lab Room Requirements

CVT

Cardiovascular Technology students are expected to demonstrate:

  • Professionalism, follow the Cardiovascular Technology Lab Dress Code (see Section 3 – Student Dress Code in Labs)
  • proper use of the equipment found in the Cardiovascular Technology Laboratory
  • ability to locate the resource manuals for the electrocardiographs and related equipment
  • care and maintenance of the electrocardiograph machines
  • ability to leave the Cardiovascular Technology Labs clean, tidy and organized

All students will be required to act as simulated patients for their peers in skills course labs and during skills practice sessions. Only fellow students from your class and your program may be used as patients for electrocardiography.

Accident Prevention

Please note: No food or drink is allowed in the Cardiovascular Technology Lab at any time.

Only lab manuals and any required material should be brought into the lab. To avoid clutter and the possibility of accidents, backpacks and extra supplies should be left in student lockers.

Every student is responsible for keeping the lab area clean and safe for self and others. Work areas are to be cleaned after each use. Used linen is to be placed in the linen bags provided. Students who are not respectful of keeping the classroom environment safe and clean may be denied entry.

Lab Access

Lab access is restricted. Students will be given access to the lab as appropriate for labs and designated practice sessions. Students will gather by the entrance of the lab (104/E, inside the library) no more than 5 minutes prior to their lab time, and wait for a CVT staff member. Students will be respectful of other students studying in the library and keep noise volume to a minimum.

Video surveillance cameras have been installed at the entrances of all laboratories.

OTA/PTA

CLINICAL SKILLS LABS

The clinical skills lab is equipped with many supplies, teaching aids, equipment, which are used for instructional purposes. Some materials are available for student use during practice sessions (both supervised and unsupervised) as well as during practical exams. Every student is responsible for keeping the lab area clean and safe for him/herself and others. Students who do not demonstrate respect for keeping the classroom environment safe, clean and confidential (e.g. no photographs) may be denied entry.

  1. Treatment tables (plinths) are to be cleaned after each use with the supplies provided
  2. Used linen is to be placed in the linen bags provided
  3. No materials/assistive technology may be taken out without signed permission from Faculty.
  4. Students are responsible to return equipment in good working order. Students may be required to pay for lost or damaged equipment.
  5. Students are required to be simulated patients for their peers in skill labs and are able to discuss with lab faculty if not able to participate as a simulation

PHARM TECH

LABORATORY GUIDELINES

The Pharmacy Technician program utilizes three lab rooms, generally classified as:

  • The Computer Lab (Room 238),
  • The Dispensing/Compounding Lab (Room 239), and
  • The Sterile Lab (Room 241).

The following are the general guidelines regarding student conduct and safety protocols for all these lab rooms. The students will review these documents during the relevant courses and will also obtain further guidelines, rules and procedures specific to those lab courses within their courses and respective modules.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ALL LAB ROOMS

  • Students are to wear Dark Grey scrubs for all lab courses, with a program arm badge on the left arm, as well as flat closed toed/heeled shoes. Students should not wear hats or baseball caps while in the lab.
  • Students are to have and/or wear their student ID badges during all lab periods.
  • Students are to respect the rights of all other students working in the lab.
  • Students are to respect and maintain the integrity of all equipment and resources used in the lab periods.
  • Students will not have food/drink in the lab rooms and will not eat/drink in any of the lab areas.
  • Students are to keep all cell phones, music players, laptops, pagers, bookbags, purses, etc. in their lockers. These items are not permitted in the labs. It is expected that students only bring their binder/modules relevant to the lab and a small pencil case with calculator.
  • Student attendance is mandatory for all lab periods (see Attendance Requirements, Section 2 and Section 3, in the program handbook).
  • Students are not to be in designated lab areas unsupervised.
  • Students are to work individually unless otherwise directed by the instructor.
  • Students are to come prepared to lab with the appropriate attire and resources.
  • Students are to keep all work areas clean and free of debris; students are encouraged not to waste materials and recycle when applicable.
  • Students are also expected to know what is considered waste and what is considered to be put back in stock, and if unsure to ask and avoid contamination of stock products.
  • Students are to return all products and equipment to the proper designated area, ready for the next user.
  • Students are to complete any required documentation within lab time.
  • Theft of lab supplies/materials or of other student belongings will not be tolerated and will be reported to Mohawk campus security.
  • Students are to report to the faculty any wrongdoings witnessed of another student, as is expected within the profession.
