Student Dress Code on Placement

CHC

STUDENT DRESS IN SERVICE LEARNING PLACEMENT

Professional clothing is  to be worn while on site, unless otherwise discussed with the placement host. Clothing  and shoes must be clean and wrinkle-free. Lab coats are not to be worn outside the  A & P lab  area.

Shoes:                  Flat shoes with closed heels and toes are recommended .

Personal:             Hair must be neat, clean and off the face. Fingernails must be short, clean and well-manicured. Perfume is not to be worn. In most work settings, it is expected that all personnel wash daily and wear deodorant.

Jewelry:               Jewelry should be removed if working closely with patients/residents. .

ID Badges:           Mohawk College student photo identification badge is to be visibly worn at all times while on placement sites.

CVT

Identification as a Mohawk College student is mandatory for liability reasons. To this end, a Mohawk College School Health Student Dress Code has been established:

  • Steel blue colour scrub suit uniforms are required for the CVT program.
  • Closed toe, impermeable white shoes with rubber soles
  • Hair is to be up or tied back, no caps or hats and minimal jewellery
  • Nails must be clean, short and well manicured. No coloured nail polish, artificial nails or extenders or nail gels permitted.
  • The Mohawk College scent-free policy must be observed.
  • Any PPE as required by the clinical site

Additional options:

  • White lab coat/jacket may be worn over the scrubs but must also have a CVT arm flash attached
  • T shirts or turtle necks may be worn under the uniform but ONLY in the following solid colors (no patterns or print):
    • Black, White, Navy blue, or Grey
  • Permissible head coverings must be in solid colours (no patterns or prints):
    • Black, White, Navy blue or Grey.
  • No cardigans or sweaters permitted.
  • A Mohawk College insignia (arm flash), indicating the wearer is a Cardiovascular Technology student, is available from the Campus Store. The insignia must be worn on the left sleeve of the uniform and lab coat, and must be visible at all times. Additional identification will be worn according to clinical site policy.

The uniforms may be worn to and from the clinical site, unless the site has a policy against such actions.

Students who are not in compliance with the dress code requirement, may be denied access or removed from their clinical placement.

SPECIAL NOTE: Please observe the “Fragrance Free” policy which is in effect at all the clinical sites.

OTA/PTA

Students will wear appropriate clothing when attending any fieldwork experience:

  • College program shirt
  • Full-length dress pant (solid color) – NO JEANS or baseball caps. Dress shorts (summer) only with permission from facility.
  • Scrub skirts with permission of facility
  • Mohawk College student ID
  • Minimal jewelry (e.g. no dangling earrings or rings with high settings)
  • Fragrance free
  • Attention to personal hygiene

PHARM TECH

Dark Grey scrubs, with program arm badge on the left arm, are to be worn while on site, unless otherwise discussed with the placement host. Scrubs must be clean and wrinkle-free.

Jewelry:   Jewelry and make up should be removed if working in a sterile environment.

ID Badges:   Mohawk College student photo identification badge is to be visibly worn at all times while on placement sites.
