Section 5: Evaluation, Grading, and Promotion
Assignment Submissions
Assignments or labs must be submitted by the method and date and time specified. Otherwise, late submissions will not be graded and will be assigned a grade of “zero”. Where late submissions are accepted, late labs or assignments will result in a deduction of the maximum possible mark from the student’s lab/assignment mark for each day they are late, excluding Sundays (*refer to chart below for specific details). Failure to complete and submit any labs or assignments during the course may result in an Incomplete grade being assigned at the end of the semester.

Students are expected to submit their own original work for all assignments and lab work. Therefore, a student cannot use work previously submitted for another course (or the same course if the course is being repeated). If it is determined that it is not the student’s own original work, the faculty will follow the Academic Integrity policy. A zero grade will also be assigned where a breach of Academic Integrity occurs.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are responsible for retaining all rough notes, drafts and a copy of all assignments (make back-ups of all files) and/or papers, until the marked assignments/papers are returned to the student. Faculty may request submission of all preparatory work for assignments and papers to verify the accuracy and authenticity of the work.

Assignment Overview
Due Dates
In-Class Assignment Submission:
All papers, reports, presentations, and assignments must be submitted to the professor using the designated format (electronic and/or hard copy), at the beginning of the class in which the assignment is being evaluated (unless otherwise stated by the professor).
MyCanvas Submission via Electronic Assignments folder:
Some assignments are required to be submitted by MyCAnvas. Please note: most electronic assignment folders have a closing time assigned to them after which is unavailable to the student. Professors will not accept assignment submissions via email.
Late Submissions
Assignments will not be accepted after the time and date due without penalty, unless supporting official documentation outlining the circumstances preventing submission is provided. Acceptable reasons for late submission supported by documentation would be due to unforeseen personal or immediate family crisis, documentation must be submitted through Student Wellness Documentation Portal – Documentation is required within three (3) days of the due date to be considered for late submission without penalty. Foreseeable absence on the day the assignment are due, will require the student to submit the assignment at an earlier time and not at a later date. In times of crisis, professors will work with the student to arrive at a reasonable solution, which compassionately reflects the severity of the situation and needs of the student.
Procedure for Unforeseeable Absence on Due Dates:
All assignments should be submitted in their current finished or unfinished state via MyCanvas, prior to the start of class that the assignment is due. These may be directed to the professor as an e-mail attachment and/or submitted in the Electronic Assignment folder. This attachment will assist the professor in determining an appropriate course of action with the student
The student should then:
- Email, call, or voice-mail the professor, prior to the due date and time, to notify the professor of the circumstances of absence, and arrange for the method of submission of the completed document.
- With proper notification, the professor will identify the method of submission and deadline imposed.
- If these procedures are not followed, or should the student be unable to provide official documentation to the Student Wellness Documentation Portal for the absence within three (3) days, then a deduction of 25% per 24-hour period will be applied to the total weight of the assignment.
Missed Test/assignment/Presentation Absence
Please refer to the Missed Evaluation procedure.
