CLINICAL ALLOTMENT PROCEDURES

The following are pre-clinical non-academic requirements (NARs) for clinical practice in all clinical courses and must be completed as scheduled/required by the Cardiovascular Technology Program:

  • Medical clearance
  • Mask fitting – the fee of approximately $40.00 must be paid by the student. Mask fitting must be renewed every two years (see Section 4 – Pre-Placement NARs).
  • CPR-BLS/First Aid (see Section 4 – Pre-Placement NARs). CPR must be renewed annually.
  • Police clearance (VSS), renewed annually.
  • Flu shot, as required by individual clinical sites

Non-medical requirements:

  • Consents
  • FIRE & WHMIS
  • AODA & Workplace Harassment and Workplace Violence
  • Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps
  • Interprofessional Event (year 2 only)
  • CompTracker registration

Students may be required to submit the information compiled to their placement site(s) as well and are encouraged to keep the original copies in a safe place, as Mohawk will not share the information collected.

Students will not be allowed to attend clinical experience unless all NARs are met and validated by Pre-Placement Services. Students who do not meet the deadline for preplacement clearance will not be given consideration during the first round of allotment.

Note: Applicants who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to enter clinical placement. Once students have been accepted and registered into the Cardiovascular Technology program, a certificate of “Police Clearance” and/or “Consent to Disclosure” may be requested by the clinical placement site.

All expenses related to obtaining required documentation such as police clearance or testing such as mask fit testing for clinical placements, as well as the registration fee with CompTracker, are the sole responsibility of the student.

The student is responsible for keeping all requirements met certificates and have them available to present to the Human Resources department of their clinical site on the first day of clinical. Clinical sites may have their own additional requirements (resumes, orientation training sessions, etc.).

Clinical Allotment Procedure

More details on the clinical allotment procedure will be provided at the beginning of semester 2.

  • All students are admitted to the Cardiovascular Technology Program on the understanding that they may be allotted to any of the clinical sites which are affiliated with the program. Students may be required to spend time at multiple clinical sites during a clinical rotation.
  • Affiliated clinical agencies are located throughout Ontario, and all students must be prepared financially and personally to relocate and/or commute to their assigned clinical placement.
  • These clinical agencies have been contracted in advance with Mohawk College to provide specific experience and resources during the normal clinical terms; therefore, placements are not available at other agencies or during other times.
  • The clinical allotment procedure will be used by the program to provide equitable access to clinical sites for all students. By participating in the clinical allotment process, the student agrees to abide by the terms of the procedure, and to accept the results.
  • Any student who does not participate in any phase of the allotment process as indicated by this procedure will be assigned an available placement selected by the program after the completion of the allotment process.
  • Only student preference information that is submitted on the official clinical request form and within the timelines stated in the procedure will be used for clinical allotment. Preference information submitted in any other manner or beyond the stated deadlines will not be considered.
  • The clinical list indicating confirmed placement of students resulting from the allotment process is final. There is no appeal process for allotment, and special requests by individual students cannot be considered.

All clinical placements are at the discretion of the Clinical Liaison. Under extenuating circumstances, the Associate Dean of the Cardiovascular Technology Program reserves the right to alter student clinical placements AFTER COMPLETION of the allotment process.
