General

Trainers should start by asking the learners if they comprehend the section of communication in both the peer visitor training manual, in-person and remote. As the trainer of trainers make sure they understand communication key points so that learners will have an easier time with their training.

In-person

SUPPORTIVE COMMUNICATION

As in our previous sections, ensure that the future. Ensure that future peer visitor trainers understand the key concepts listed in this section well, enough to teach them and answer questions about them. There is a video to show in this section and at this point they should be comfortable with how they will manage the technology in both the in-person or remote teaching settings.  Your visitor trainers will then do a fill-in-the-blank exercise outlined on that page with the peer visitor learners.  Discuss how that exercise will be managed in both the in-person in the remote teaching contexts.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The key concepts covered in the section outlined at the bottom of the section. Ensure that future peer visitor trainers understand the key concepts listed in this section well, enough to teach them and answer questions about them. Peer visitor trainers will show a video related to this module and facilitate a reflective exercise about open and closed-ended questions.  This is another opportunity if there is time to have one or more learners practice leading this exercise.

CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION

The key concepts covered in the section outlined at the bottom of the section. Ensure that future peer visitor trainers understand the key concepts listed in this section well, enough to teach them and answer questions about them.  There is a short video on tips for effective cross-cultural communication to be shown. While no reflective discussion has been added to the section, it is always the option of the peer visitor trainer to lead a discussion either about the concepts taught in this section or the video.

SILENCE

The key concepts to be covered by the peer visitor trainer are outlined at the bottom of the page.  There are two videos that can be shown to peer visitor learners.  These are followed by an exercise in using silence.  Review how to conduct the exercise with future peer visitor trainers and, if there is time, ask one or two persons to practice leading the exercise.

Remote

Ask the trainers how they would use the slides to teach supportive communication, communication skills, cross-cultural communication, and silence. Guide the trainers in their responses that will help them teach their learners effectively.
