Program Structure

The Accelerated Critical Care Nursing program is delivered as a full-time, accelerated 9-week program with an integrated ECG/EKG pre-learn module. The innovative design combines online learning and clinical experience through 9 weeks of self-directed, asynchronous virtual learning, complemented with up-to 228-hours of clinical experience allowing students to integrate new knowledge into their critical care practice on an ongoing basis.

1 Week of Pre-Learn

Learners will participate in 1 week of self-directed virtual learning with a specific focus on
electrocardiography for a total of 3 days online and two clinical experience days focusing on ECG/EKG.

8 Weeks of Virtual Learning

Following the one week of ECG/EKG learners will participate in 8 weeks of online asynchronous learning comprised of didactic instruction and virtual simulation facilitated by a Mohawk College instructor for an estimated total of 24 hours per week of assigned learning activities and self-study.

2 Intensive Skills Labs

Learners will complete two 8-hour face-to-face skills labs at the Institute for Applied Health Sciences at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Integrated Clinical Practicum

Learners will be required to complete up to 228 hours of clinical learning which includes 2 shifts per week in their home hospitals and 3 shifts in week 9 under the supervision of staff educators.
