Welcome

The Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Inclusion (GCEI) and the Centre for Accessible Learning and Counselling Services (CALCS) created this guide to provide course designers and faculty with a variety of inclusive teaching strategies and available tools grounded in the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. These principles recognize diversity among students and that a one-size-fits-all approach to education creates barriers to participation and academic success. This is especially true for many students who have disabilities that impact their learning experiences in various ways. UDL strives to design learning environments that enable equitable participation of all students through flexible routes for learning[1], protect students’ rights to equal opportunities and support academic success for all students.

This guide complements the UDL Standard at Centennial College, which highlights ten UDL-based strategies that curriculum designers, instructional designers, and faculty can prioritize to create inclusive learning environments for all students.

  • Become more knowledgeable and confident in using UDL strategies to prevent these barriers; and,
  • Locate and use course design and delivery tools at Centennial College that are available to all faculty and course designers

Before you get started, check your UDL knowledge!

If you would like to learn more about UDL, complete the Introduction to Universal Design for Learning, a short, self-paced module for faculty and course designers at Centennial College.

You can navigate through this guide in three different ways: using the next/previous button, the contents menu, or the search bar. Watch the next video for a demo.
