55 Applications: Getting Involved by Applying IntroPSYC to Support Student Learning
By Meghan E. Norris and Riley J.T. Bonar
This unit we explored memory. Memory is an important concept in psychological science, but the application of this part of psychological science is also important as the time for exams approaches.
As a student with introductory training in psychological science, especially with foundational training in concepts related to learning and memory, you might consider exploring opportunities to apply your skills and knowledge here at Queen’s as you progress as a student.
We know from psychological science that students often engage in study behaviours that are not very useful (e.g., re-reading and highlighting), sometimes neglecting the study behaviours that have bigger impact (e.g., practice testing, recall) (Dunlosky, Rawson, Marsh, Nathan, & Willingham, 2013). There are opportunities for you to help other students integrate evidence-based study habits to make a big impact!
Both our Student Experience Office (SEO) and Student Academic Success Services (SASS) team recruit students for a variety of opportunities to serve in peer support roles. All these opportunities are meaningful, and some directly apply what you are learning in this course (e.g., the Academic Success Peers opportunities).
If you are keen to help students apply evidence-informed study habits, or to support students more generally, we encourage you to explore opportunities to get involved through the SASS website, and Peer Programs offered at Queen’s.
