97 Applications: Considering Careers in Health Care
By Meghan E. Norris and Riley J.T. Bonar
In this unit, we continued exploring topics related to mental health and psychopathology.
It can be confusing to know the nuances of the many careers that support mental health, especially at this stage. If you are interested in working in mental health, we invite you to watch the optional video below, hosted by the Canadian Psychological Association. To help clarify some of the common professions in mental health work, in this video, you will hear from a Clinical and School Psychologist, a Social Worker, a Registered Psychotherapist, and a Clinical Psychologist.
As you know from taking this course, students taking this course may pursue many career pathways in health care, not always in the context of mental health. The Canadian Institute for Health Information publishes a Health Workforce in Canada: Overview that may be informative if you are considering different careers in health care.
As a student at Queen’s, this is a friendly reminder that we have a stellar team over at Career Services. You are able to access career coaching and support for up to 1 year after graduation. If you are considering possible career pathways, this is a great time to check in with them. You may be still deciding on which Major to pursue, and they can help you to understand requirements for your next steps after your undergraduate degree. If you are in the Faculty of Arts and Science and selecting your degree plan concentration, this is also a good time to review information on plan selection. Please note that the ArtSci Plan Selection website is updated annually in the winter semester, and content can change year to year.
