23 Phase 4: Summary Phase

In this simulation of removing staples and applying steri-strips as a form of wound closure, you had the opportunity to determine patient identifiers and the directives required to perform the procedure.  You applied knowledge regarding proper aseptic technique, wound cleaning, steps needed to remove staples, and how to prevent complications while maintaining patient safety.

Additionally, you were tasked with problem-solving potential complications and critically thinking about your role as a nurse in recommending next steps when a patient is showing signs of a wound infection.  You can draw upon knowledge gained through this simulated experience if patients require this procedure while practicing clinically.
