Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in ISSOTL

Shaping an inclusive and responsive professional organization
Theme Overview
Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DIA) are core values of ISSOTL that shape its global, interdisciplinary community. Prioritizing geographic diversity is important for garnering representation and contributions from all world regions. It is also valuable for enriching our perspectives on teaching and learning across the globe as well as imbuing organizational goals and values with international experiences and approaches. Disciplinary inclusion fosters dialogue across fields, encouraging innovation and the sharing of pedagogical practices. Balancing engagement between new and long-standing members promotes continuity while welcoming fresh voices. Student members, vital to ISSOTL, bring lived learning experiences that deepen SoTL scholarship and keep us focused on improving student learning (the ultimate goal of SoTL work).
ISSOTL members believed that the organization works to ensure diversity, accessibility, and inclusion in its mandates and priorities. At the same time, participants articulated their desire to see ISSOTL enhance its commitment to DIA in order to create equitable spaces where all members, regardless of geographic location, discipline, experience, or role can participate fully, contribute meaningfully, and feel a strong sense of belonging within the community.
