What We Heard

As noted in the previous chapter, the ISSOTL conference is the entry point for many people into ISSOTL and the first point of contact with the organization. Indeed, the conference has not only provided an important pathway to ISSOTL, but it has been identified as a critical event for keeping people tethered to the organization and to the SoTL community more generally.

Making Connections and Finding Community through the Conference

Seeking and Finding Belonging through Diverse ISSOTL Initiatives

In addition to the conference itself, SoTL scholars found belonging through other ISSOTL initiatives. While many of these initiatives are linked to the conference, they also extend beyond the conference and foster collaboration outside of the yearly meeting.

To learn about each initiative, click through the 5 dialog cards below.

Engaging in these opportunities provided valuable opportunities for connecting with international scholars, working on key SoTL topics, and affirming one’s sense of academic identity. Here’s what some of our participants had to say about these initiatives.
