Sharing Experiences

Participants were invited to respond to the question, “What would you like other SoTL scholars to know about the organization [ISSOTL] and its work?” Seventeen participants responded with comments like, “ISSOTL is an incredibly welcoming and supportive community.” Almost half of the respondents recommended getting involved with the International Collaborative Writing Groups (ICWGs) or a Special Interest Group. There was one comment about the value of poster sessions at the conference and another comment advising first-time participants to seek out activities.  The overarching suggestion seems to be to “find an activity that interests you (i.e., ICWG, peer reviewer) and take a deeper dive.”

“ISSOTL is a warm, inclusive community, full of colleagues willing each other on.”

“I would like other SoTL scholars to know that ISSOTL is an incredibly welcoming and supportive community. The conferences I have attended have been incredibly invigorating.”

“ISSOTL can be intimidating when new because it seems people know each other but if you are brave and try [to] engage, people are super friendly. ISSOTL has assisted me in finding an international community. This has benefited both my research and also my teaching immensely. Through ISSOTL and conversations with others, I have learned how similar but different the challenges and issues, as well as strengths of higher education, are within different contexts (i.e. discipline, geography, language, etc.)”
