Answers: try not to use these until you are completed the questions.

    1. Write the names of the following compounds
      1. calcium fluoride
      2. boron chloride or boron trichloride; the “tri” is sometimes considered redundant
      3. lithium hydride
      4. barium oxide
      5. aluminum chloride or aluminum trichloride the “tri” is sometimes not written as it’s redundant
    2. Write the formula of the following named compounds
      1. LiBr
      2. CCl4
      3. Na2S
      4. MgBr2
      5. Al2S3
    3. Write the name of the following compounds using both the ic/ous and the IUPAC methods
      1. Cupric fluoride, copper(II) fluoride
      2. no ic/ous name because zinc has more than two oxidation states, zinc(II)O
      3. ferric oxide, iron(II)oxide(aka rust 😉 )
      4. plumbous sulfide, lead(II)sulfide
      5. plumbous selenide, lead(II)selenide
      6. stannous fluoride, tin(II)fluoride
    4. Write the chemical formula for the following compounds
      1. SnCl2
      2. Pb3N4
      3. FeO
      4. CuF2
      5. SnCl4
      6. Cu2O
    5. Write the names of the following compounds:
      1. sulfuric acid
      2. chloric acid
      3. lithium nitrate
      4. barium sulfate
      5. sodium phosphate
      6. ammonium manganate
      7. sodium hydrogen carbonate or sodium bicarbonate
      8. ammonium cyanide
    6. Name the following:
      1. methylpropane
      2. 1-methylbutamine, this is a primary amine with the methyl on the first carbon after the N
      3. 2-pentanone or pentan-2-one. Depending on the usage; the former name may be easier to say but in more complicated molecules it might be best to place the -2- directly in front of the “one” suffix.
      4. butanal
      5. N-methylbutamide, the methyl group is on the N, rather than on the carbon chain of the amide.
      6. methylpropylamine
