Infection

The search term “infection” was originally used for this section; as there were many respondent descriptions of “infection”, we categorized different experiences of infection based on location of the infection. The categories into which postings about infection were grouped are: local/stoma infection, bone infection, and general uncharacterized infection. Uncharacterized infection encompassed all other reports of infection including MRSA, staph, and reports that were not specific on where the infection was located.

Respondents reported infection of different types starting immediately post surgery with at least one person reporting infection at 521 weeks (10 years) post OI. Most reports of infection were within the first 60 weeks post OI. Fifty percent of the posting about pain were within the first 52 weeks (1 year) after surgery.
