I have included this article because it outlines the roles in which nurses play not only in chronic disease management but also in chronic disease prevention. Some examples from the article include monitoring treatment effectiveness as well as regular patient assessments. These areas were both core components of the care provided during this clinical placement term.
Borghmans, F., et al. (2024). Finding meaning in complex care nursing in a hospital setting [Manuscript]. Monash University. https://researchmgt.monash.edu/ws/portalfiles/portal/634764115/583230458-oa.pdf

If interviewed as the nurses in the article were, I would have identified similar themes impacting me, my peers and the staff nurses we were learning from on the floor. I feel that the “pressure cooker system” seemed to especially resonate for the nurses and “relational care” and “EMR” were elements I found I personally connected with. The article identifies that providing meaningful care to be linked with job satisfaction and retention. I feel an area of future research following this article is identifying what can be done to create more care experiences that are defined as meaningful.
