Reading 6-1: Warm Summers

In the summer, the weather in Ontario is usually warm. It gets cool at night. Last summer, the average daytime temperature was 24 degrees Celsius. At night, the average temperature was 14 degrees. People in Canada usually wear t-shirts, shorts, and dresses. They wear cotton. They also wear linen clothes. These materials are light. They are perfect for warm weather. Some evenings are cooler than normal. Light jackets are popular at that time. People use umbrellas or raincoats on rainy days. Sometimes, children wear rain boots. Rain boots keep their feet dry. It rains two or three times a week in the summer.
Reading 6-2: Wintertime in Canada

Canadian winters can be cold and snowy. The temperature can fall to -30 or even -40 degrees Celsius in some parts of Canada. It is very important to wear warm clothing in the winter. For example, people wear heavy jackets or snowsuits. Also, people wear mittens or gloves on their hands. Most people wear thick socks and boots on their feet. Some people wear a warm hat on their heads. Wool and fur hats help people stay warm in cold weather. A scarf is another great way to protect the neck from wind and snow. Warm clothing is important in wintertime.

Canadian summers can be warm and sunny. Some months can be very hot. Temperatures can rise to 40+ degrees Celsius. It is very important for people in Canada to wear light clothing in the summertime. For example, most people wear shorts, t-shirts, or light dresses. The clothing material is important. It needs to be thin. It needs to be breathable. This means that air can pass through the material easily. Many people wear sandals or running shoes. Also, sunglasses are good. They protect eyes from the sun and UV rays.
