Reading 8-1: Min’s Big Family

My name is Min, and I live in Vietnam. I have a big family, and I love them very much. First, I have three daughters and two sons. Also, I have a beautiful wife, one dog, two cats, and three goldfish. I am the oldest child in my family. I have five brothers and two sisters. My brothers live in Vietnam, but my two sisters live in Canada. My parents are retired, so they live in Vietnam for six months of the year, and they live in Canada for six months of the year. They like this plan because they have many grandchildren in both Vietnam and Canada, and they like to visit with them. My family has a lot of fun when we are together.

Reading 8-2: Suzie’s Small Company

My name is Suzie, and I am a designer. I have a small company, and I have three people that work there. I have a small office. It has four desks and four computers for my workers. I love my job because I can also work from home. I have flexible hours. For example, I can start work late if my daughter has a soccer game in the morning. Also, I can work early if I have a big project. My workers have children, so they need flexible hours, too. I love managing my own company.

Reading 8-3: A Teacher’s Job

Teachers have many jobs. First, they make lessons and prepare activities. For example, they make videos and grammar practice activities. Next, teachers give feedback. For example, they check students’ work and write comments to help them. Finally, teachers support students. For example, they meet with them to talk about their progress, and they answer many questions. Teachers do a lot of work.

Reading 8-4: How to Fry an Egg

Gaby fries an egg in five steps. First, she heats the pan over medium heat. Second, she puts olive oil in a pan. Third, she cracks an egg into the pan. Next, she spoons hot oil over the egg whites. Finally, she adds salt and pepper on the eggs. It is easy to cook eggs in five steps.
